New-Life Butterflies

by Levels K & 1
The butterfly was introduced to students as a symbol of the resurrection and of new life in Jesus. Like the butterfly which begins as a caterpillar, forms a cocoon and emerges later as a butterfly, the students were made to understand that Christ’s death and resurrection are a similar transformation from one life ending and a new heavenly life beginning. Students learned about such art elements as color-mixing and symmetry as they painted wings of their butterflies on only one half of their papers, folded their papers over and formed mirror-image wings on the other halves.
